THE PEACEMAKER TALL SHIP IS COMING TO ST. MARYS

Three-masted square-rigged vessel available for boarding and touring in historic St. Marys
ST. MARYS, Ga., (January 23, 2015) – The City of St. Marys Main Street Office and the St. Marys Convention & Visitors Bureau announce the tall ship Peacemaker, a wooden barquentine, will be docking in St Marys from Sunday, January 25 through Sunday, February 1 when it is scheduled to disembark on a trip around Florida to Mobile, Alabama. The public is invited to tour the ship beginning Monday evening with tours being available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The ship will be docked at the St. Marys Intracoastal Gateway dock located at the corner of St. Marys Street and Ready Street. There will be no admission charge for boarding and touring this fantastic three-masted vessel.
Angela Wigger director of tourism said, “St. Marys has a rich maritime history and these tours allow citizens to appreciate and understand more fully what that history may have looked like.” The visit was arranged by the city’s Main Street Office and Main Street Coordinator, Becky Myers shared, “The arrival of the tall ship the Peacemaker is a wonderful way to celebrate St. Marys maritime heritage and to assist in bringing visitors to the downtown district.”
The Peacemaker, a class A tall ship, has just returned from visiting 70 cities along the East Coast and Great Lakes over the past few years, logging thousands of miles under sail, and hosting thousands of visitors on board. The ship measures a 158 feet sparred length and a 124 foot overall length. The ship was built on a riverbank in Brazil using traditional methods and using the hardwoods epee and mahogany, making the ship one of a kind.
